Much ado about nothing

Today is update day- Sunday.  I did everything I said I was going to do (except go to the movies with Susan and Kelli) – but I did more things too.  On Monday, I went to Greensboro to visit Mom.  We had a nice time shopping at all the craft stores around there (Hobby Lobby, Garden Ridge, Michaels and AC Moore, all within 1 mile of each other).     I got yarn to make some felted purses and some additional yarn to finish my granny square afghan.   On Tuesday, I went grocery shopping, had lunch with Billie Jo, then made 4 casseroles of chicken.  On Wednesday, I went to bible study at Meg’s house.  Elaine brought beautiful homemade Valentine cookies and treats for us- what a pleasure! I led my group and I feel so unqualified to be their leader.  Then, several of us went to lunch at Courtneys- Elaine, Meg, Laticia and Tibbie. We closed the joint.  Thursday was  Valentine’s Day. Ronnie and I didn’t celebrate too much. He got me a sweet musical card and I made him a shadowbox of his dad’s pocket knives.  (Ronnie’s dad has Alzheimers and is now in a nursing home. Ronnie’s mom cleaned out his stuff and gave Ronnie about 20 of his father’s old pocket knives- so I surprised him for Valentine’s Day by arranging 15 of them in a shadow box).    At 10am, I went to Sydney McCauley’s house for a Pampered Chef Valentine’s Day lunch party.  Kelly Carroll was the demonstrator and she did an excellent job.  For supper, Ronnie and I got a pizza from NY Pizza- my first pizza since the surgery- not a good idea from a digestive standpoint (if you catch my drift:)!        Friday was Kathleen’s bible study. She is so excellent- I think she should go on the speaking circuit! Kathi May brought some of those cucumber sandwiches with cream cheese- yummy! I have not had those in years.  I am craving them now. Mendy Iler cracked me up, as usual. I love her.  I got to see Chris Wertz for the first time since surgery- she made me feel so good! After bible study, I went clothes shopping at Kohl’s- by myself.  I did my normal thing- I shopped, loaded up my cart, and then I unshopped.  I spent 3 hours in Kohls.  I have never shopped that long in one store in my life- they were having a great sale- 25% off the clearance price.  I ended up getting 3 tops, 1 jacket, 2 pieces of jewelry and 2 pairs of socks for less than $80.  I am going to Ohio next week to visit Katie- therefore, I needed the jacket.  It felt so good to be able to try clothes on and they fit or were too big!!!  That’s a first.

Yesterday was such a beautiful day.  Ronnie and I went to Bruegger’s Bagels (I can’t eat it all yet), then we went to the flea market.  I got a surprise for Katie (you will have to wait to hear what it was, Katie) and a couple of antique pins for myself.  We also bought some produce- great prices!  After a quick trip to the grocery store- we came home, Ronnie did some yard work- then we headed out to the lake for some Vitamin D (sunshine).  As you know, I am VERY low on Vitamin D because I have avoided the sun all these years because of my melanoma. Now, they tell me I need to get out in the sun.  Who can figure it out?!?!?  We walked at the lake (we took Tux) and people watched. There was a family there that caught an entire 5 gallon bucket full of fish- what fun!   We ran into some old friends on the trail-I love that!  Today, we will have to leave church early and go to Greensboro. My step sister in law died on Valentine’s Day of brain cancer. She was 55 and truly loved life.  She had many friends and was so socially active. Her funeral is today at 2- Ronnie and I will pick up my mother and take her.

That’s about it for my week.  Please pray for my trip to Ohio- I will be flying alone (a first for me!). Jeff will be in Fargo, ND this week on business.  Ronnie and Tux will be home alone.  Pray for them.  Also, please lift up Katie- she will be leading the worship at the Women’s Conference I will be attending- pray that the Lord will be glorified….and please extend  that-  that the Lord will be glorified in my life! Thanks for your prayers!

  • Sounds like you’re doing well…
It’s a fine art to learn to eat the top of the pizza- but one I enjoy now. :)
And I thoroughly enjoy 1/2 a bagel from bruegger’s every week too! :)
Three years out and I still can’t finish a whole one most weeks… :)
